Heather Maxwell is an executive producer, creative strategist, and dynamic on-air personality with a keen focus on engaging young audiences. Since 2012, she has led the transformation of Music Time in Africa, a legacy music program on The Voice of America (VOA), into a vibrant, multi-platform experience. Under her vision and leadership, the show now reaches millions of music fans each week through radio, television, podcasts, and digital platforms across the globe.
With a Doctorate in Ethnomusicology and African Studies, Heather combines academic rigor with artistic sensibility. A trained jazz and classical vocalist, she draws inspiration from authentic talent, mood, vibe, and compelling storytelling. Her passion for music and culture has taken her across Africa and Europe, including years living in several West African countries. She speaks French and Bambara. Heather is also a talented voice actor.
Heather's work continues to bridge cultures and generations, celebrating the richness of African music while connecting with global audiences in fresh and meaningful ways. In recent years, her music journalism and presentation turns toward telling the American story spotlighting American music and entertainment from the vibrant cultural centers of Los Angeles, New York and Nashville.
